Greetings, Oak Grove UMC ~

I am very excited about the opportunity to serve as your Director of Youth Ministries. Over the past 3 months I have enjoyed getting to know the youth from Oak Grove and I am looking forward to this exciting new phase for both Oak Grove and St. Paul's.

I was raised in a suburb 30 miles east of San Francisco, CA. I am the eldest of three sons. My brothers and their families moved to Oregon over the last 5 years and my parents moved to Jefferson, Oregon, almost 2 years ago. My husband Nathan and I moved to Portland from the SF Bay Area in late 2009 after being laid off within a week of each other. We wanted to be closer to my family, so we took a leap of faith and moved to Oregon. I have been working as the Director of Children & Youth Ministries at St. Paul's UMC since April 2010. Nathan is employed at OHSU in the Women's Health Center.

As a lifelong United Methodist I come to Oak Grove with a wide experience in camping and youth ministries in the California-Nevada UMC Annual Conference. I worked for over 5 years as the Director of Children's & Youth Ministries at Good Samaritan UMC in Cupertino, California. I have been involved in directing and leading children's camps and teen leadership camps for over 20 years. I have served on Conference, Jurisdiction and National UMC camping boards for many years.

In our spare time we enjoying going camping, taking road trips, spending time with family and visiting local parks with our Boston Terrier, Missy. We enjoy exploring the many diners and food carts in the Portland area. We are big foodies!

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.

Blessings,

Erik Day
