ABOUT OAK GROVE UMC
For visitors and members
AED ON-SITE ... We have an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), which does not replace a 911 call but allows someone on-site to begin emergency treatment while for paramedics to arrive. It is located in the Wesley entrance hallway and is clearly marked. Over a dozen of our members have been trained in how to use it.
HEARING DEVICES ARE AVAILABLE FOR SUNDAY SERVICES ... Several different types of earpieces are available. Please ask an usher for assistance.
OUR PRAYER CHAIN ... Those wishing prayer support may write their request on one of our green pew cards and put it in the offering plate during Sunday worship. You may also, or instead, tell the congregation during Prayer Time. Written requests will be forwarded on Mondays to our Prayer Chain coordinator, Pat Maple, and they will also be included (unless confidentiality is requested) in our Sunday bulletins and Tower Signal newsletters. Another option is to email or phone the church office to request prayer support (or email or phone Pat, when the office isn't open). Prayer requests will be honored for 3 weeks unless an extension is requested. If you would like to join this dedicated group, please contact Pat Maple or the church office. We can always use more people to pray for those experiencing difficult times! The only requirement is that you must be able to use email.
PLEASE WEAR YOUR NAME TAG … on Sundays and when attending church events on other days of the week. New members and visitors want to know who you are!
RECYCLING 101 … We encourage recycling at the church. There are some simple rules to follow:
PLEASE KEEP OUR OFFICE INFORMED OF ANY CHANGES … in your contact information. And if you pay your pledge through auto-deduct, please let us know about any account or credit card changes. (We're charged a fee for each failed transaction.) When mailing checks or confidential material to the church, it's safest to always use our PO Box address (PO Box 68238, Oak Grove, OR 97268).
OUR CHURCH DIRECTORY ... Copies are available in the office. Please shred older directories or return them to the office for shredding. Also, please keep the office notified of any changes to your contact information, so our directory can be kept up to date.
AN ALTAR FLOWERS CALENDAR … for the current year is posted on the bulletin board in the main hallway, near the office. Please consider donating flowers to decorate our sanctuary! It's a wonderful way to honor a loved one, perhaps acknowledging a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary. It needn't be expensive. You can supply a plant or arrangement yourself, or give money to our Flower Team (Jean & Judy Fairbairn) to purchase flowers through our wholesale connection. The name of each Sunday's flower donor, and any stated special occasion or other reason for the donation, is printed in our Sunday bulletins. Sign up early to claim dates that are meaningful to you!
PLEDGE CARDS … They're the tall white cards in our pew pockets that look like this. Anyone who wishes to initiate a new pledge, or change their current pledge, can do so at any time by filling out a pledge card and putting it in the offering plate or mailing it to (or dropping it by) our office. We're all encouraged to give as an essential part of our faith, as an expression of our trust in God, our caring for others, and our commitment to transforming the world for Jesus Christ.
ENJOY THE CONVENIENCE OF ELECTRONIC GIVING ... We now offer the option of electronic giving, allowing you to arrange automatic donations on a schedule specified by you. This could be more convenient for you and provide donation consistency for our church. To arrange electronic donations you'll just need to get an authorization form from the office, fill it out and return it. You can specify whether your donations will be debited from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card and your preferred donation frequency (weekly, on Mondays; semi-monthly, on the 1st and the 15th; or monthly, on either the 1st or the 15th). You can easily change or cancel the arrangement at any time, so why not give it a try?
OUR DISTRICT & CONFERENCE ... Click here for information about, and links to, our District and Conference, including information about our current Bishop and District Superintendent.
OUR AUDIO/VISUAL TEAM … does an outstanding job with sound & lighting for our Sunday services and other events. You can be part of this team! It requires only patience and a willingness to work with people. The obligation is to help the team in the Sound Booth about once a month. We will provide you with an instruction manual and training. If interested contact our A/V Team leader, Ron Kriesel (503-655-5326).
OUR HONOR BOARD ... Click here to read about the large board in the Wesley Entrance that is filled with names.
OUR FOOD BARREL ... Our year-round Food Drive continues! The Clackamas Service Center and Wichita Family Center are always in need of donations of non-perishable food items (especially protein foods such as peanut butter, canned chili, canned meats and tuna), also personal hygiene products and cash to use to buy food. (Make checks payable to OGUMC with "food" in the memo line.) Please check the "sell by" dates on your food items before donating them, because outdated products are discarded. Thanks to Gloria Arts for delivering our donations each month!
IF YOU SHOP AT FRED MEYER, PLEASE HELP US RECEIVE "COMMUNITY REWARDS"! … Through this program Fred Meyer donates $2.5 million each year to participating nonprofit organizations in the Pacific Northwest, based on where their customers instruct them to give. If you shop at Fred Meyer and have (or are willing to obtain) one of their Rewards Cards, it's easy to link our church to your card (a one-time process) to help us receive a share of the Community Rewards, based on how much you spend. Since OGUMC joined this program in 2014 we've received over $445, and that's with just a few members participating so far! Participants in this program still receive all of their personal rewards (e.g., fuel rewards); this is something extra for nonprofit organizations. Click here for details.
