OGUMC QUILTERS

During the last several years our quilters have made over 200 beautiful handmade quilts (they say they've lost count!), some of which were gifts for baptisms and other special occasions at our church. However, the majority have gone to low-income participants in United Methodist camps including Creation Vacation, a family camping mission program of the Oregon-Idaho Conference.

Our quilting group is open to anyone who's interested in helping to construct quilts for worthy causes such as those mentioned above. They meet at the church from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on most Thursdays. Meetings are announced in the Calendar page on this website and in our Sunday bulletins.

The group sometimes has more material than the number of available hands can turn into quilts, and they would love to have additional quilters join them. Beginners are welcome! The group's leader, Cleo Rekart, has taught quilting and would be happy to teach anyone who is interested in learning how to quilt and is willing to participate in this outreach ministry. Please note that each participant needs to be able to bring a sewing machine to use.

To help our quilters continue their valuable work, they're always happy to accept donations of batting and cotton scraps (no polyester, please!) and money that can be used to purchase any additional supplies they may need at any given time. Occasionally (usually at least once or twice each year) the group makes some of their quilts available for purchase at the church to raise money to buy more supplies. Selling just a few of their quilts — to members of our church who are delighted to be able to buy such beautiful creations at extremely reasonable prices — can raise enough money to enable them to make many more.

Contact Cleo Rekart or the church office for more information.

Below are just a few of the beautiful quilts, in many different styles and colors, that have been produced by our quilters!
